I remember as a young girl in primary walking home from school with a couple of my friends. One of them exclaimed and how soft my hands felt to the touch, I just smiled in thanks. The common thought most people would have was that I probably didn’t do any chores whatsoever at home. My very good friend quickly corrected that and simply said, ” Namandla is probably more hard working than all of us here.” I just had a really broad smile as I learnt that someone appreciated me. I was 13 at the time. Over the years I watched my hands and the beauty they once possessed fade away. Don’t get me wrong, my hands are still pretty but not as pretty as they once were. And it’s not really because of extremely hard work or anything as the common notion but the change in times and seasons…
